Abject Gallery in Sunderland

From the Foundations, is a planned series of events taking place from 2025 to 2027 in recognition of artist and educator Joe Woodhouse (1971–2022) and his research and writing. Following a retrospective exhibition of his artworks, From the Foundations will be hosting a series of talks, presentations, and symposiums at multiple venues. These events will explore the key themes that underpinned Joe Woodhouse’s research throughout his career.

A symposium will be held at the gallery on 25th of October in memory of Joe Woodhouse. The event, inspired by his interests and contributions to art and design education, is part of a commemorative series in Sunderland’s galleries and cultural venues that continues the conversations and approaches he valued. Further details about the symposium will be available from the gallery closer to the date, and more information on the series can be found at From the Foundations.
